How are you adapting to changing rainfall patterns?
I've been noticing significant shifts in rainfall patterns here in the Pacific Northwest - longer dry summers and more intense winter rains. I'm curious how others are adapting their water management strategies. Some things I've been experimenting with: - Expanding swale systems to capture more winter rain - Adding more drought-tolerant perennials - Building passive irrigation from roof runoff What's working for you? What bioregion are you in and what changes have you noticed?

We're seeing similar patterns in Colombia. I've been focusing on increasing organic matter in soil - it's amazing how much more water retention you get with healthy soil biology. Going from 1% to 5% organic matter can double the water-holding capacity.
Great point about soil organic matter! We've also been experimenting with biochar as a long-term water retention strategy. Early results are promising.
In Sweden we're dealing with the opposite - more erratic precipitation and flooding. We've been installing rain gardens and permeable surfaces to slow water down. The key seems to be designing for both extremes.
