Our Community Urban Farm Initiative is transforming vacant lots across Oakland into thriving, productive urban farms. We grow organic vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees while building deep community connections and advancing food sovereignty in historically underserved neighborhoods.
Our approach combines permaculture design principles with traditional farming knowledge from our diverse community members. We operate three active farm sites with plans to expand to five by the end of the year.
Key activities include: - Weekly volunteer workdays open to all community members - Monthly harvest festivals and farmers markets - Youth gardening education programs - Seed saving and sharing workshops - Composting and soil building demonstrations - Community meals prepared with farm-fresh produce
We welcome anyone passionate about urban agriculture, food justice, or community building. No experience necessary -- just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
